What the price is made up of
A website is more than a few pages of text. The price always contains – visibly or hidden – the same building blocks:
- Concept and design: structure, colours, fonts, imagery. Custom-designed or based on a template.
- Texts and photos: who writes the service descriptions? Is there a photo shoot? Texts are often the biggest time sink.
- Technical implementation: mobile optimisation, loading time, accessibility, search engine basics.
- Features: online booking, reviews, maps, multiple languages, forms.
- Legal matters: Impressum (legal notice), privacy policy, cookie solution – explained for medical practices (AT | DE), physiotherapy (AT | DE), psychology (AT | DE) and psychotherapy (AT | DE).
- Ongoing operation: hosting, domain, SSL certificate, security updates, backups and changes.
Three routes to a practice website
1. The traditional web agency
An agency develops your website individually – from the first workshop to the launch. The result can be excellent, but the work is usually billed by the hour. Public price overviews for Austria and Germany give €4,900 – €18,000 one-off for a custom practice website and €120 – €1,200 per month for hosting and a maintenance contract (converted to gross prices including VAT, as of November 2026).
2. The website builder
With a website builder, you build the website yourself. Subscriptions for business customers cost €15 – €50 per month. The real price is your time: for structure, texts, images, legal matters and fine-tuning, you should realistically plan 40 to 80 hours – time you often don’t have when starting a practice. Accessibility, loading time and search engine optimisation are then also in your hands.
3. Specialised fixed-price offers
In between are providers who specialise in practices. Because structure, features and legal requirements are very similar for practices, they can work with a proven system and still design individually. That lowers the price without cutting corners on quality. At Meine-Praxis-Website, for example, a finished practice website costs €1,800 one-off, or €3,600 with a content management system for editing it yourself, plus hosting at around €30 per month and domain management from €24 per month (all prices incl. VAT).

| Web agency | Website builder | Fixed price for practices | |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-off | €4,900 – €18,000 | €0 (your own time: 40–80 h) | from €1,800 |
| Monthly | €120 – €1,200 | €15 – €50 | €30 hosting + domain from €24 |
| First year | €6,340 – €32,400 | €180 – €600 | in the cost calculator |
| Effort for you | workshops, coordination | high – you build it yourself | low – supply content, give feedback |
Running costs that are often forgotten
The starting price is only half the bill. Over five years, running costs often add up to more than building the site. So always ask:
- Hosting and domain: what does it cost per month or year, and is an SSL certificate included?
- Maintenance: who installs security updates, who makes backups?
- Changes: what does it cost to change the opening hours or add a new team member?
- Licences: are there paid plugins, fonts or image rights that have to be renewed every year?
- Add-on modules: online booking, review widgets or translations – one-off or by subscription?

11 questions before you sign
Clarify with every provider:
- Is the price a fixed price or an estimate based on hours?
- Are the prices gross or net? (Practices usually cannot deduct VAT – compare gross prices.)
- How many rounds of revisions are included?
- Who writes the texts, who supplies the photos?
- Are mobile optimisation, accessibility and Google basics included?
- What do hosting, domain and maintenance cost per month?
- What does a change cost – and how quickly is it made?
- Do the domain and content belong to you, and can you switch providers?
- Is there a minimum contract term?
- Are the servers in the EU, and do you get a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR?
- Are there examples from other practices you can look at?
