Websites in Austria and Germany need a legal notice (Impressum). General-purpose generators leave out exactly the details health professionals are obliged to include: the Ärztekammer (medical chamber), the Psychotherapeutenkammer or professional register, the statutory professional title and the professional regulations. This generator knows them – for doctors, psychologists and psychotherapists, and physiotherapists.
What belongs in the legal notice of a medical or therapy practice?
Every practice website needs a legal notice that is easy to recognise, directly accessible and permanently available. Besides your name, address and quick ways to get in touch, the law requires regulated professions to provide extra details: the chamber you belong to, your statutory professional title together with the country in which it was awarded, and a reference to the professional regulations including where to find them.
In Austria, this follows from § 5 E-Commerce-Gesetz (ECG), plus the disclosure under § 25 Mediengesetz (Media Act). In Germany, § 5 Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz (DDG) applies, which replaced the Telemediengesetz in 2024. Doctors and psychotherapists with statutory health insurance contracts there also name their Kassenärztliche Vereinigung (association of statutory health insurance physicians) as the supervisory authority.
Not every health profession has a chamber: psychologists and psychotherapists in Austria name the register of the Ministry of Health they are listed in instead. Physiotherapists have no chamber in either country; their legal notice states the professional title, the country that awarded it and the MTD-Gesetz 2024 (Austria) or the Masseur- und Physiotherapeutengesetz (Germany). Psychologists and psychotherapists are separate professions with their own laws: in Germany, only licensed psychotherapists have a chamber, and psychologists without a licence need no professional law details.
How to use the generator
First choose your profession and the country your practice is in. The form then shows only the chambers, registers and fields that apply. The preview updates with every entry. When everything looks right, copy the text for your website builder or the finished HTML for your web agency.
The legal notice is created in English, and a switch above the preview gives you the German version. On a multilingual website, publish the legal notice in the language of each version. The names of chambers, registers and laws stay German in every language, because those are their official names.
Common mistakes in a practice legal notice
Most often, the chamber or register and the link to the professional regulations are missing. Also common: the legal notice can only be reached after several clicks, the email address is missing, or the professional title is a home-made description instead of the statutory title. Missing mandatory details can lead to cease-and-desist letters and administrative fines.
